Back to Case studies "Earthdome" flats, London Borough of Merton RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE MONITORING AND METERING The monitoring of this Ground Source Heat Pump provides a case study of how to monitor the Renewable Heat Incentive. Energence is tracking both the efficiency and real-time kWh generation of the heat pump. Monitoring is the best proven industry improvement incentive RHI installations need to be monitored or there is a risk that tax payers money may be paid out for inefficient heat pump and solar thermal installations. Biomass systems also need to be monitored to ensure that they are in day-to-day operation. Monitoring will ensure that homeowners and businesses know immediately if there is any problem with their renewable equipment - and in so doing protect their investment. The Energence platform also provides a feedback mechanism so that homeowners and businesses can receive email alerts, and Information, Advice, & Guidance updates. |
| The heating and hot water needs of the flats is supplied by three ground source heat pumps, and one exhaust air source heat pump. The pumps were installed by ICE Energy, and are performing very well. The Energence Platform software is able to determine both the kWh generation and the SPF (Seasonable Performance Factor) which is the efficiency of the heat pump system. | Architect: Bob Harris: http://www.earthdomes.co.uk Bob won Master Builder of the Year 2005 for Earthdome. The flats are built to very high thermal and ecological standards. Earthdome is a study of traditional building techniques using modern materials and systems that when combined help to resist the effects of global warming, resulting in a living environment that is both environmentally friendly and is healthy for its occupants. The Earthdome project was created to demonstrate that it can be both practical and cost-effective to construct living environments that have minimal environmental impact, yet still provide a modern and fashionable lifestyle experience. | Heat pump kWh generation graph
