About us

The Energence Platform evolved out of the need to monitor the "Merton Rule" renewable energy planning policy.

The Platform now monitors PV Feed in Tariff installations for Housing Associations and Councils. It also designs Green Deal monitoring platforms for clients and providers.

Energence Ltd was formed in 2008 by Adrian Hewitt and Fabio Carrera as a venture to develop the concept of automated renewable energy monitoring from the performance metric perspective; IE, monitoring municipal renewable energy planning policies like the Merton Rule. Municipal officers do not have the time to follow up on building developments to see if the correct equipment was installed, or to check if it working and generating the expected amount of energy. The Platform is not just about the actual monitoring, but also the administration of the monitoring.

The prototype system was commissioned by the London Borough of Merton in 2007 by Adrian Hewitt (the Energy and Climate Change Officer at the time). It was programmed by computer engineering students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. These students were overseen by Prof Fabio Carrera who designed the Platform architecture.

The prototype was demonstrated at the Government Offices for London in 2008. The Platform concept was further evolved with version 2 used to monitor several buildings in Merton. Version 3 was built in 2011 and is being road-tested for the Energy Savings Trust in Scotland in an extension of the DECC funded heat pump field trials.

Key Platform clients are Housing Associations and Councils wanting to monitor not just renewable energy, but any efficiency intervention and CO2 reduction measure. It is also a sophisticated investment protection Platform for banks and investment companies.

The Energence Platform is an application of the "City Knowledge" concept of Urban Data Management developed by Prof Fabio Carrera of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Energence is a "REWORK" company: http://37signals.com/rework/ : We do not carry unnecessary company mass: We evolve to meet clients needs rather than to fit a preconceived Plan. We are an enterprise in the frontier territory of energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and climate change, and as such, recognize the mindset and many of the ideas behind "REWORK".
